Where we see your child
Your home
New skills stick best when children practise them where they use them. At home, we can work on dressing, toileting routines, mealtimes, bedtime routines and play. We use the toys, chairs and spaces your child already has.
School
Stittsville is home to schools from all four Ottawa boards: OCDSB, OCSB, CEPEO and CECCE. Each school has its own process for outside therapists. With the school's agreement and your consent, we can see your child at school. Typical school goals include printing, cutting, keyboarding, desk posture and managing the noise and pace of a classroom.
Daycare and preschool
Many Stittsville families have toddlers and preschoolers. Where a daycare or preschool agrees, we can visit to work on play skills, early drawing, transitions between activities and getting ready for kindergarten.
Online
Virtual sessions can work for goals like handwriting practice, homework routines and parent coaching. Online sessions are also handy during a stormy week.
What we often help with in Stittsville
Parents get in touch for all kinds of reasons. Frequent ones include:
School readiness. Holding a pencil, using scissors, opening lunch containers and following routines.
Motor coordination. Balance, climbing, catching a ball and learning to ride a bike.
Sensory processing. Children who avoid certain sensations, or who seek out constant movement.
Self-regulation. Strategies for meltdowns, transitions and calmer mornings.
No referral or diagnosis is needed to start.
Our process
Free 15-minute call. Tell us what you have noticed, and we will explain how we work.
Initial OT assessment. We get to know your child and agree on goals with you.
A planned block of 10 sessions. We do not offer single drop-in sessions. A block gives your child time to build skills step by step.
Written notes after every session. You always know what we worked on and how to help at home.
Bingo Books. Fun, custom OT activity guides in a bingo format, for practice between visits.
Review and next steps. We look at progress together and decide what comes next.
Practical details
Scheduling. Visits are planned by area of the city. The sooner you share your preferred days and times, the easier it is to book.
Using your neighbourhood. Bingo Book activities can happen on a walk, at a playground or while helping with chores.
Payment. We accept e-transfer only and provide a receipt for every payment. Many extended health plans include OT, so check your coverage.
French. French-speaking therapists are available on our team. Let us know if you prefer French.
